CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped fell at Charlotte, 2-1, Saturday afternoon. Senior Brooke Darreff drove in the Hawks' lone run on the day as SJU moved to 18-14 overall and 3-5 in the Atlantic 10.
Darreff gave SJU a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, doubling to left field, allowing sophomore Bernadette Moran to score from first.
Charlotte's Keri Palma tied the game at one with a bases-load single off SJU starter Erin Gallagher with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Following a strikeout, the 49ers added the go-ahead run on a wild pitch as Serena Smith scored from third base.
The Hawks had their chance to tie the game or take the lead in the top of the seventh though, with freshman Dana Parks and Moran reaching second and first, respectively, with one out. Unfortunately for SJU, Charlotte's pitcher, Emily Jeffery ended the game with back-to-back strikeouts.
Gallagher was the hard-luck loser for the second-straight day, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out three.
Darreff (3-for-4) and freshman Rochelle Christman (2-for-3) accounted for five of Saint Joseph's eight hits on the day.
