RICHMOND, Va. - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell, 2-0, at Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Kelly Swanick posted 10 saves, while senior Casey Fry and sophomore Abby Hoover added a defensive save apiece.

Saint Joseph's (1-3) had the early advantage, peppering VCU's cage with shots early on, but goalkeeper Erin Jablonski was up to the task, keeping a clean sheet through halftime with six saves.

Virginia Commonwealth (2-2) took over in the second frame, outshooting the Hawks 15-3. Marie van Dessel got the Rams on the board with just 9:50 remaining on a 15-yard blast for her second goal of the season. Kelsey O'Brien then scored nine seconds later to set the final margin.

Swanick made seven of her 10 saves in the second half. Jablonski finished with eight stops. Fry put all four of her shots on the cage to lead SJU, while senior Nicole McCreight had three shots on goal in the match.

The Hawks will have eight days off before their home opener at Buckley Field on September 12. SJU will face-off with Ivy League foe Cornell at 2:00 p.m.
