Box Score MERION STATION, Pa. – Sophomores Eva Gekas and Sarah Yerk tallied goals and junior Jordan Martin added a pair of assists as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team shut out Siena, 2-0, at Ellen Ryan Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks held the Saints to just two shots in the game, and junior Rachel Barnett made one save to notch her second shutout of the season.
Saint Joseph's (3-8) opened the scoring with 11:56 to play in the first half. Gekas took a pass from Marin Vreeburg after a penalty corner and sent the ball over to Martin, who found Gekas on a give-and-go for the game's first goal and Gekas' second of the season.
Martin then doled out another assist just 1:45 into the second half, as Yerk deposited a pass into the top corner of the cage to double the lead.
Siena (0-10) had a penalty corner late in the match, but Barnett turned away an attempt from Megan Meyers to preserve the clean sheet.
The Hawks outshot the Saints 18-2 for the game and enjoyed a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners. Siena's Beth Meyers made nine saves in defeat.
Saint Joseph's opens conference play this Friday, October 11, with a 3:30 p.m. game at La Salle.
