Peabody Earns Two Individual Wins to Lead Men's Track at Delaware Open

NEWARK, Del. - Led by two individual wins from freshman Alec Peabody (200m, long jump) and additional first-place victories from sophomore Steven Butenewicz (800m) and junior Derrick Henry (400H), the men's track and field team competed at the Delaware Outdoor Open on Saturday afternoon. The meet was hosted by the University of Delaware at Delaware Stadium.

After two second-place finishes in the 200m early in his freshman campaign, Peabody ran a 22.03 to clinch his first collegiate individual win out of 45 total competitors in the event. The rookie also posted a long-jump mark of 6.63 (21' 9") to earn his second win of the meet.

Butenewicz was the first to cross the finish line in the 800m (1:54.03) out of 45 total runners while Henry took first in the 400H out of seven in 56.00.

Senior Dave Manion (1:55.09), sophomore James Gentile (1:56.29), and senior captain Andrew Townsend (1:56.72) took second, fourth, and fifth, respectively, in the 800m behind Butenewicz while junior Griff Roberts (56.67) and sophomore Matthew Sutorius (58.60, PR) took second and third in the 400H, respectively.

SJU's two relay teams brought home a pair of second-place finishes. The 4x100m relay of Henry, junior Tyler Dougherty, Roberts, and sophomore Brendan Robert posted a 43.56 while the 4x400m relay of Henry, sophomores Tyler Gallen and Matthew McGarvey and Manion recorded a 3:19.71.

Gallen also grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 200m (22.61) while senior captain Garrett Barbalinardo ran the 400m in 50.07 for fifth.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. The meet is scheduled to be held Friday, April 19 through Saturday, April 20. The Hawks' first event is tentatively scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Weaver Stadium. Additionally, SJU will be in action on Saturday, April 20 at the Widener Invitational in Chester, Pa.
