Men's Track Takes Sixth Place at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Five relay teams combined for 32 points and three long distance runners qualified for IC4As as the Saint Joseph's men's track and field team took sixth place with a combined 52 points out of 30 teams at William and Mary's 48th Annual Colonial Relays this weekend. The meet showcased athletes and teams from 40 colleges and universities, professional clubs, and high schools in Williamsburg, Va. for the three-day meet that took place at Zable Stadium.

Saint Joseph's 4x1500m and DMR teams combined for 16 points. In the 4x1500m, graduate student Dan Roark, sophomore Paul Szulewski, freshman Quinn Davis, and junior Michael Rankin took home the silver medal (15:57.40) out of 11 teams. With its second-place finish, the quartet collected eight points for the Hawks. Junior Tommy O'Kane and sophomores Tyler Gallen, Steven Butenewicz, and Logan Mohn grabbed another eight points for SJU with their fourth-place finish (9:59.20) in the DMR.

The 4x200m relay of junior Jonathan Eisemann, freshman Alec Peabody, junior Tyler Dougherty, and freshman Christopher Banks took third (1:27.77) for six points while the 4x400m relay of Eisemann, senior Garrett Barbalinardo, junior Griff Roberts, and Gallen took fourth (3:17.30) and the 1600m sprint medley of Peabody, junior Derrick Henry and sophomores Brendan Robert and James Gentile took fifth (3:30.75) for five points apiece.

Graduate student Kevin McDonnell took fourth in the 5000m championship event, crushing the IC4A-qualifying standard in a personal-standard 14:03.52 and tallying another five points for the Crimson and Gray. Rankin also qualified for the IC4A 5000m in a personal-record 14:32.35. Graduate student James McBride saw two points with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000 with a personal-record 30:12.35 to qualify for IC4As.

Peabody also took fourth in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.99 (22' 11 1/4") for five points. The freshman ran a 22.26 in the 200m to miss placing for points by just 0.04. Roark's steeplechase time of 9:19.14 handed him a five-point, fifth-place finish while Mohn's eighth-place, three-point finish (9:20.90) in the same event was a season-best for the sophomore.

Davis also took home a seventh-place finish in the 1500m out of 41 total competitors. With a personal-record 4:02.65, Davis was the top freshman finisher in the event. The 4x400m relay of Dougherty, Henry, Robert, and Banks also placed seventh in 3:18.44.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Saturday, April 13 at the Delaware Invitational in Newark, Del. Start time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
