Softball Drops Pair at USF Under Armound Showcase

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the USF Under Armour Challenge, falling to Wagner, 6-1 and 2-1 to Bryant.

The Hawks got nine hits versus Wagner, with Nicole Palase going 3-for-4, but couldn't tally convert on their opportunities.

Wagner jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and added a run in the second and the fifth to open a 6-0 advantage.

Saint Joseph's, which left runners on base 11 times, broke through in the sixth as Morgan Earling scored on a single by Isabella Picard.

Unfortunately, the Hawks failed to rally from there, falling to Wagner, 6-1.

Against Bryant, Saint Joseph's fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the second, but rebounded to tie the game at 1-1 as Sarah Yoos led off the inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Palase.

Bryant would take advantage of an error by the Hawks in the bottom of the third to regain the lead, 2-1, and would hold SJU off the scoreboard over the next four innings.

At the palte, Yoos was 4-for-4, while Ashley Alden went 2-for-3 against Bryant. Emily Rogers was the hard-luck loser, allowing just one earned run on four hits, while striking out one over five innings of work. Rookie Niki Carillo pitched a scoreless sixth for SJU.

Saint Joseph's caps play versus Miami (Ohio) on Sunday.
