West Inducted into SJU Athletics and Basketball Halls of Fame

DREXEL HILL, PA. - Former Saint Joseph's standout Delonte West was inducted into both the Saint Joseph's Athletics Hall of Fame and the SJU Men's Basketball Hall of Fame this evening at the 59th Annual Men's Basketball Awards Banquet held at Drexelbrook Catering.

A two-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Big 5 selection, West finished his career with 1,235 points and holds SJU records for highest free throw percentage in a season (.892) and most field goals in a game without a miss (12).  As a sophomore, he was named the Most Improved Player by both the A-10 and Big 5.

An Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press and First Team All-American by Basketball Times as a junior in 2003-04, he teamed with National Player of the Year Jameer Nelson to lead SJU to a 30-2 record, a perfect regular season (27-0), the top of the national rankings, the school's first-ever #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a trip to the Elite 8.

West was selected in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics.  He spent eight seasons in the NBA, including stints with the Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks and Seattle Supersonics. Still active, he most recently played for Fujian Xunxing in China.
