DREXEL HILL, Pa. - Langston Galloway, Halil Kanacevic and Ronald Roberts, Jr., were named the Most Valuable Players of the 2013-14 Saint Joseph's University basketball team and received the John P. Hilferty Memorial Award, as announced at the 59th Annual Men's Basketball Awards Banquet held at Drexelbrook Catering.
In addition to honoring the 2014 Atlantic 10 Champion Hawks, former Saint Joseph's standout Delonte West was inducted into both the Saint Joseph's Athletics Hall of Fame and the SJU Men's Basketball Hall of Fame at the banquet. An Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press and First Team All-American by Basketball Times as a junior in 2003-04, West teamed with Jameer Nelson to form the top backcourt duo in SJU history. He finished his career with 1,235 points and was a two-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 and All-Big 5 selection.
The second leading scorer in school history with 1,991 points, Galloway averaged a team-best 17.7 points per game for the 24-10 Hawks and finished his career as SJU's all-time leader in three-pointers with 343. Kanacevic made his mark as one of the most unique players to wear the Saint Joseph's uniform, as the 6-8 forward topped the team in rebounds (8.8), assists (4.38) and blocks (1.53), while averaging 10.8 points per game. One of the most exciting players in school history, Roberts averaged a career-best 14.4 points while grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game. Galloway and Kanacevic were each Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selections while Roberts earned All-Conference Third Team honors.
Junior guard Chris Wilson and redshirt freshman forward Javon Baumann were the co-recipients of the Robert O'Neill Memorial Most Improved Player Award. Wilson started all 34 games at point guard this season and averaged a career-best 9.1 points per game. Baumann appeared in 15 games in his first season of competition with the Hawks.
Senior Eric Kindler, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in theology in December, received the George Senesky Memorial Award for academics.
The Daniel J. Cummins, Jr. Memorial Award for spirit was presented to both senior forward Daryus Quarles and Ian Klinger who served as the Hawk mascot for the past two seasons.
The Patrick D. O'Pake Unsung Hero Award was given to senior forward Colin Kelly.
Senior managers Julianne Capron, Brigid Klarich and John O'Brien were the recipients of the William F. Maher Memorial Award for loyalty.
Bud Gardler, who played for the Hawks from 1967 to 1968, received the Michael J. Conway Memorial Award, for an alumnus who has given back to the program. Students Nick Corpora and Grace Lemka earned the Fr. Emory Ross, S.J. Sixth Man Award for his support. Team video coordinator Spencer Westemeier and Paul Hondros '70 each received the William J. Bennett Memorial Award for dedication and service to SJU basketball.
