PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team's five game win streak was snapped Sunday afternoon as the Hawks fell to Columbia, 1-0, at Sweeney Field.
Coming in having posted a program record five straight shutout victories, the Hawks had that streak snapped in the 24th minute as Columbia jumped ahead 1-0. The Lions' Alexa Yow took a crossing pass inside the SJU from teammate Grace Taylor and beat SJU's goalkeeper Allison Ebling to the right side at 23:41.
Saint Joseph's (6-4-0) best chance to tie the game came midway through the second half as freshman Lauren Dimes charged towards an open ball that had got past the Columbia goalkeeper, only to have a defender reach the ball and clear it first.
For the game, each team collected six shots apiece, while Columbia (3-1-3) finished with a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Individually, sophomore Emily Gingrich led SJU with five shots. Ebling's record-setting scoreless streak was snapped at 478:21 as she was the hard-luck loser, falling to 6-4-0 on the year.
The Hawks return to action Friday as they cap nonconference play at Richmond at 4 p.m.
