BLACKSBURG, Va. – Members of the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team took part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Regional Championship on Thursday and Friday, with senior Kyle Chalmers advancing to the second round of the main singles draw.

On Thursday, sophomore Dan Tan won a match in the qualifying draw against Liberty's Ryker Heller, 7-5, 7-6 (4), but fell to Alastair Hurry of Villanova, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, with a spot in the main draw on the line.

Chalmers sailed past Liberty's Max Borcuti in the first round on Friday afternoon, winning the match at love to book a place in the second round.

Sophomores Andre Fick and Tim Stierle both fell in the first round, with Fick dropping a 6-1, 6-4 result to Daryl Monfils of VCU, while Stierle went down, 6-4, 6-3, to Eddie Ayers of George Mason.

In doubles play, Chalmers and Stierle fell to GMU's Daniel Gutierrez and James Lange, 8-6, while Marco Lam and Mac Rechan of Georgetown topped Fick and Tan by the same score.

Chalmers will meet VCU's Martin Jonsson in the second round of singles play on Saturday; consolation play begins Saturday as well.
