PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Saint Joseph's sophomore forward Dakota Mills scored 41 seconds into overtime to complete the Hawks' comeback victory at Atlantic 10 leader Duquesne, 3-2, Sunday afternoon.
Backed by a pair of second half goals from sophomore Michaela Finneyfrock, Saint Joseph's (12-1-2, 5-0-1 A-10) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime with the reigning A-10 champion Dukes.
The Hawks wasted little time in the extra period as they took advantage of their first possession. Moving the ball quickly into the Duquesne zone, Mills shielded off a defender and blasted a shot inside the right post to lift the Hawks to a 3-2 win.
In a matchup of two of the A-10's three remaining undefeated teams in conference play, the host Dukes (9-4-2, 5-1-0 A-10) scored twice in the opening 14 minutes to take a 2-0 edge.
Abby Losco put Duquesne on the board at 10:43, while teammate Linnea Faccenda's goal at 13:24 moved the advantage to 2-0.
Saint Joseph's cut into the Dukes' lead at 70:01 as Finneyfrock headed in a corner kick by senior Shannon Mulvey to make it 2-1.
Finneyfrock would even the match at 2-2 with under five minutes to play as her shot from the left side of the box slipped into the upper right corner.
Neither team had a scoring opportunity during the final minutes of regulation, but SJU made the most of its first chance in overtime thanks to Mills.
For the game, Saint Joseph's finished with a 14-12 edge in shots and 4-3 advantage in corner kick.
In goal, sophomore Grace Bendon made a pair of saves to earn her first win of the season.
With the goal, Mills extended her team lead to 12 and tied for the third most goals in a single season.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday when they host Saint Louis at 7 p.m. The match will feature the the top two teams in the A-10 as both squads will enter the match tied atop the standings at 5-0-1.
