Emily Sayre Joins Field Hockey for 2016 Season

The Saint Joseph's field hockey program will welcome 10 new student-athletes for the 2016 season.  Over the coming weeks, we'll introduce Hawk fans to the new additions, one by one. This week: Emily Sayre.

Methacton High School forward Emily Sayre will join the Saint Joseph's field hockey program in 2016.  Sayre hails from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Philly Hockey Club.

Sayre has earned both First and Second Team All-Conference honors in her high school career and received PIAA All-State Honorable Mention recognition in 2014.  That year, she was also named to the Pottstown Mercury All-Area Second Team.

The Warriors have seen sustained success during Sayre's time in the program, reaching the playoffs in all four years of her career and reaching the second round of the state tournament this past season.

A three-sport athlete, Sayre is also a member of the lacrosse and track teams at Methacton.

“I'm excited to be a part of the Hawk family,” Sayre said.  “To join in on the community activities and to finally be able to say 'The Hawk Will Never Die!' is exciting!”

Sayre has competed with the Philly Hockey Club since 2012.  She has participated in the National Field Hockey Festival in each of the past two seasons, and is also a two-time member of PHC's National Indoor Tournament squad.

In addition, Sayre has taken part in USA Field Hockey's Futures Program.

“I chose Saint Joseph's because the field hockey program has an intelligent coaching staff and new turf fields,” Sayre said.  “On top of that, I felt as if I was at home from the very first time I visited the campus.  It's a beautiful school and I'm honored to be going there.”

“We're excited to welcome Emily's ambition and competitive drive,” head coach Lynn Farquhar said.  “Emily is a natural athlete with an attacking mindset and the ability to play both sides of the ball. After her first time on campus we knew she was a Hawk match!”

Sayre and the rest of the new Hawks will join the field hockey program in time for the 2016 season.
