Men' Tennis Falls to Davidson, 5-1

MEDIA, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team suffered a 5-1 defeat to Davidson on Saturday night in a match that was moved up due to an unfavorable forecast for Sunday.

The Wildcats took the doubles point with a sweep of all three flights.  In singles play, senior Andres Urrea came away with a win in the second flight, outlasting Artem Khrapko, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2.  Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Davidson secured each of the remaining four singles matches that were played to completion.

“Davidson is a solid team and after they won the doubles point convincingly, it was good to see the Hawks rise to the challenge and make a battle of the singles matches,” head coach Ian Crookenden said.  “After two quick defeats and with our backs to the wall we finally got on the scoreboard at number two.  Captain Andres Urrea kept the match alive and gave Kyle Chalmers a chance to get on the board at number three, but Davidson put away the match with a really well-contested third-set win.

“We know we can compete with any team in the league, and this is one of the better ones.”

The Hawks are idle until a trip to Morgan State on March 26.
