PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's sophomore forward Dakota Mills scored twice to lead the Hawks' women's soccer team past Towson, 3-1, Friday evening at Sweeney Field.
Towson (0-4-1) came out as the aggressor as Natalia Pinkney opened the scoring at 7:21 as she took a lead pass from Marissa Green into the box and beat a drawn out keeper to put the Tigers ahead 1-0.
The Hawks (3-1-0) rallied to tie the game at 1-1 in the 34th minute as sophomore forward Dakota Mills tallied her fourth goal of the season. Off a centering pass by rookie Gabrielle Vagnozzi from the Towson goal line, Mills headed the ball just past the reach of the Tigers' goalkeeper and into the net at 33:04.
Mills would strike again for the Hawks in the second half, tallying her fifth goal of the season and third game-winner, off strong passing deep in the Tigers' end. With the ball down the left side of the field, Vagnozzi crossed a pass to the middle of the box where sophomore Michaela Finneyfrock left a touch-pass to Mills, who followed with a shot into the open net to make it 2-1 at 59:23.
Saint Joseph's rookie Bridget Galen added to the Hawks' lead in the 75th minute as she took a pass from Mills and found the back of the net with her first collegiate goal to make it 3-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Cameron Perrott and the SJU defense would make the score stand with the Tigers were limited to just one shot over the final 15 minutes as Perrott made three saves on the day to improve to 3-1-0 on the year.
