NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's freshman forward Quinn Maguire was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week on Monday. It is the sixth time in nine weeks that she has earned at least a share of the league's top weekly honor for newcomers.
Maguire totaled eight points over the weekend as the Hawks won a pair of games. On Friday, she assisted on the equalizer and added a goal of her own later on as the 19th-ranked Hawks clawed back from a 2-0 deficit to beat #23 Massachusetts, 5-2.
On Sunday, the Media, Pennsylvania, native added two more goals and another assist as SJU beat Northeastern, 4-3. Maguire tied the game seven minutes into the first half before scoring again nine minutes later to push the Hawks to a 3-1 lead. Then, after the Huskies drew level in the second half, Maguire assisted on Emily Peters' game-winner to send the Hawks to their 12th win in their last 13 games.
Maguire leads the Hawks with 15 goals and ranks second on the team with 36 points. She currently ranks second in the conference in goals and third in total points while leading all newcomers in both categories.
Saint Joseph's wraps up its regular season at home on Saturday against Davidson.
