Box Score LEWISBURG, Pa. - Behind a strong second half performance, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team snapped Bucknell's 29-game home win streak with a 77-53 victory at Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday evening.
Led by 10 of senior Chelsea Woods' game-high 21 points, the Hawks outscored the Bison 43-23 in the second half after leading by four at halftime.
Ahead 34-30 at intermission, Saint Joseph's held Bucknell to just 25 percent shooting (4-of-16) in the third quarter and used a 15-9 scoring advantage to open a 49-39 advantage.
Up by 10, the Hawks' lead would shrink to no less than eight as they closed out the game going 11-of-17 from the field (64.7 percent) in the fourth quarter to improve to 2-0 on the season.
For the game, SJU shot 47.7 percent from the floor (31-of-65), hit 4-of-8 from three-point range and shot 68.8 percent from the foul line (11-of-16).
Individually, Woods added a team-best nine rebounds to go with her 21 points to leadfive Hawks in double figures. Senior Amanda Fioravanti scored 13 points and had eight rebunds, three assists and two blocks, while classmate Adashia Franklyn finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Junior Alyssa Monaghan handed out a game-high six assists and scored 10 points alongside junior Sarah Veilleux, who chipped in with five rebounds and three assists to go with 10 points.
At the other end, Kate Walker led Bucknell (2-1) with 16 points, while the Bison finished just 19-of-62 from the field (30.6 percent), 5-of-19 from behind the arc (26.3 percent) and were outrebounded, 42-34.
Bucknell, which held the third longest home win streak in the nation coming into the game, had last loss at home to Youngstown State, 55-47, on December 2, 2015.
The Hawks cap a three-game road swing to open the season on Sunday at James Madison at 2 p.m.
