Men's Lacrosse Hosts Wagner on Saturday for Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse squad (3-9, 0-4 NEC) will host Wagner (6-7, 1-3 NEC) in the Hawks' home finale this Saturday, April 22. Opening face-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field. The Hawks have dropped three of their last four games by just one goal, including back-to-back losses in overtime, and will go up against a Seahawks squad that is 0-5 on the road this spring.

Prior to the start of the game, the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse program will honor seniors Tyler Cliggett, Charles Giunta, Anthony Joaquim, T.J. Jones, Connor Kubikowski, Mike Lanham, Danny Manning, Marcus Milione, Mike Rastivo, Kevin Reidinger, Shane Taggert, Ray Vandegrift, Evan Wolf, and Jared Wolf in a Senior Day ceremony, scheduled to begin at 12:48 p.m.

Saint Joseph's senior face-off specialist Danny Manning continues to dominate at the X and ranks second (58.1%) in the NEC entering Saturday's game; the Seahawks come in at 41.5 percent from the X. SJU's offense will go up against a Wagner defensive unit that leads the league and ranks seventh nationally in man-down defense (75%). Andrew Park ranks second in the league in caused turnovers per game (2.23) while goalkeeper Matt Sefcik ranks second in both saves per game (11.62) and save percentage (56.8%).

Saturday's game will mark the 17th all-time meeting between Saint Joseph's and Wagner, and the Hawks have won all 16 games. The teams have played each other every season with the exception of 2011.

ABOUT THE HAWKS
The Hawks have seen their season happen in streaks. After opening the season with a trio of losses to then-nationally-ranked teams in Maryland (16-8), Penn (10-5), and Duke (16-3), the Hawks finished the non-conference schedule with three consecutive wins over St. John's (8-5), Manhattan (18-6), and Monmouth (6-5 OT) before dropping its most recent six contests against Drexel (12-8), Delaware (12-7), Bryant (8-7), Robert Morris (13-7), Hobart (8-7 OT), and Sacred Heart (12-11 OT).

Junior attackman Chris Blewitt leads the Hawks in scoring with 34 points on a team-best 23 goals and team-best 11 assists. Junior attackman Jason Kelly has added 26 points on 20 goals and six helpers.

Senior face-off specialist Danny Manning owns a 58.1 percent winning percentage from the X (122-for-210) to go with 46 ground balls. Junior Austin Smith matches Manning's team-best 46 ground balls while senior defenseman Connor Kubikowski has gone for 34 ground balls - including a single-game, career-high seven last time out at Sacred Heart - and a team-best 15 caused turnovers. Smith and Kubikowski combined for 13 ground balls and six caused turnovers against the Pioneers this past Saturday.

Senior goalkeeper T.J. Jones (3-9, 0-4 NEC) sports a .535 save percentage and 10.20 goals against average in 699:43, including all 12 starts between the pipes in all but 22:37 on the year. Jones owns 137 saves on the season and made a career-high 20 stops against Hobart on April 8.

SCOUTING WAGNER
The Seahawks are 1-3 in NEC play with a 17-5 road loss at Hobart, an 8-1 home loss to Bryant, and a 17-6 road loss to Robert Morris before turning in a 9-6 home win over Mount St. Mary's this past Saturday; Andrew Streilein tallied five points on four goals and a helper while netminder Matt Sefcik made 13 saves in the full 60:00.

Wagner dropped three of its first four to open the season with a triple-overtime loss to Manhattan (14-13), a 9-8 win over Lafayette, and back-to-back losses to Monmouth (10-8) and Rutgers (12-5) before winning its next three over Dartmouth (7-6 2OT), VMI (11-8), and Hampton (10-3). The Seahawks then dropped a pair to Mercer (6-5) and Hobart and defeated NJIT (11-4) before falling to Bryant and Robert Morris and picking up their sixth win of the season, over the Mount. 

Streilein leads Wagner in scoring with 30 points on a team-best 18 goals and team-best 12 assists. Four Seahawks have seen action in goal, but every-game starter Sefcik (5-7, 1-3 NEC) sports a 9.90 goals against average and .559 save percentage in 660:27.
