Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell in a heartbreaker on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 2-1 result to sixth-ranked Maryland at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.

Despite some resolute defending throughout the day by the Hawks, Sabrina Rhodes deflected a ball off the stick of Broke Adler into the cage to break a 1-1 deadlock with 4:23 remaining in the second half.

The Hawks then had the advantage in the closing minutes as Adler was sent off with a yellow card, but the Terrapin defense held up to preserve the victory.

After a scoreless first half, Saint Joseph's (1-1) took the lead early in the second half as junior Anna Willocks netted her second goal of the season on a penalty stroke.

Maryland (1-0) would then equalize 10 minutes later as Bodil Keus converted on a penalty corner to level the game at a goal apiece.

Sophomore Victoria Kammerinke made eight saves in the game for SJU, while Sarah Holliday made one stop for the Terrapins.

The Hawks return to the Philadelphia area for a tilt at Villanova on Friday afternoon before their home opener on Sunday, September 3, against Drexel.
