Box Score DAVIDSON, N.C. – Freshman Tonya Botherway scored a goal and added two assists as the 12th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team rolled to a 4-0 win over Davidson on Tuesday at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
Saint Joseph's (13-2 overall, 6-0 Atlantic 10) wasted little time getting on the board as freshman Johanna Huse opened the scoring on a penalty corner after just seven and a half minutes. Senior Monica Tice and sophomore Jordan Olenginski earned assists on the play.
Botherway doubled the lead in the 17th minute on another corner, taking a pass from junior Kathrin Bentz; Botherway then set up sophomore Sara Hayes for her fifth goal of the season just 77 seconds later to make it a 3-0 game.
Davidson (5-9 overall, 1-4 Atlantic 10) had its first offensive opportunity of the game early in the second half as the Wildcats earned a corner, but junior goalkeeper Victoria Kammerinke made a pair of saves 40 seconds apart to keep the shutout intact.
SJU would add to the lead not long after, as Botherway picked up her own rebound and found sophomore Emily Henry in front of the cage for a 4-0 lead midway through the half.
The Hawks would see out the win from there, maintaining possession for much of the remainder of the contest and not allowing another shot by the Wildcats.
Kammerinke finished the day with two saves while Davidson's Bean Rodriguez made a career-high 12 in defeat. The Hawks outshot the Wildcats 23-2 for the day, including 15-0 in the first half, and held a 10-2 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
Saint Joseph's will play its final road contest of the regular season on Saturday at Saint Louis. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
