Box Score Saint Joseph's sophomore Lula Roig scored a career-high 16 points, but a cold-shooting second half did in the Hawks' women's basketball team as they fell to Towson, 73-52, on Monday evening at Hagan Arena.
After a first half that saw both teams click on the offensive end, including SJU hitting 46.2 percent from the field (12-of-26), the Hawks entered the third quarter down just 39-36.
Unfortunately for Saint Joseph's, its strong offensive showing didn't carry over into the second half as the Tigers opened the quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 50-38 lead on a pair of free throws by Danielle Durjan at 2:16.
The Hawks fought back to make it 50-44 by the end of the period, but got no closer as they finished the game going just 2-of-12 from the floor in the fourth, and 3-of-23 for the final 20 minutes, as Towson pulled away.
With the loss, SJU moved to 3-7 overall on the season and finished its seven-game homestand with 3-4 mark. For the game, Saint Joseph's shot 30.6 percent from the field (15-of-49), 28.6 percent from three-point range (2-of-7), but hit 20-of-28 from the foul line for 71.4 percent.
Senior Alyssa Monaghan was the only other Hawk in double figures as she scored 14 points to go with three assists, while classmate Michala Clay added eight points and four rebounds.
Kionna Jeter led three Tigers in double figured with a game-high 19 points as Towson finished the game going 27-of-62 from the field (43.5 percent), 6-of-11 from behind the arc (54.5 percent) and 13-of-26 from the foul line.
The Hawks are back in action on December 20 at Sacred Heart. Game time is set for 11 a.m. as part of the Pioneers' kids day promotion.
