Box Score The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team's season came to a close on Sunday as the Hawks fell to West Virginia, 79-51, in the Second Round of the Postseason WNIT at the WVU Coliseum.
Led by senior Chelsea Woods' team-high 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists, the Hawks capped the season with a 19-15 overall record and its second-straight postseason appearance. Playing its 34th game of the season, Saint Joseph's set a new single-season mark for contests played with graduate student Amanda Fioravanti setting a new record for players with her 34th appearance as she finished with eight points, four rebounds, three assists two steals and two blocked shots.
Looking to carry over momentum from their First Round victory, the Hawks' offense started slowly as they went 0-for-6 from the field and turned the ball over three times as West Virginia ran out to a 10-0 lead on a four-point play by Katrina Pardee at 5:27.
Despite falling behind by as many as 13, Saint Joseph's battled back to within seven, 17-10, as a layup by Adashia Franklyn before the end of the quarter capped a 6-0 run.
Junior Kristalyn Baisden brought the Hawks to within 19-13 early in the second quarter, but the Mountaineers answered with five-straight points to open their lead to 24-13 on a three-pointer by Naomi Davenport at 7:28.
Ahead 37-22 at the half, West Virginia pushed its lead to as many as 21 in the third quarter, but Saint Joseph's would not give in.
Using an 8-0 run midway through the period, the Hawks made it 51-38 on a layup by Woods with 1:45 to go.
Fighting to the final whistle, Saint Joseph's would get no closer though as it finished the season with its most wins since 2013-14 (23), while surpassing the previous mark of games played (33), held by the 2003-04, 2006-07, 2011-12 and 2013-14 Hawks.
As a team, Saint Joseph's shot 41.7 percent from the field (20-of-48), hit 4-of-10 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Junior Alyssa Monaghan finished with 11 points four rebounds and three assists, whille Baisden added nine points and three steals. Franklyn came off the bench to add eight points, three rebounds and two blocked shots.
At the other end, Davenport led four Musketeers in double figures with 18 points as West Virginia finished the game shooting 50.9 percent from the field (28-of-55), 40.9 percent from behind the arc (7-of-17) and 94.1 percent from the foul line (16-of-17), while turning 22 SJU turnovers into 32 points.
