Saint Joseph's men's basketball coach Phil Martelli has announced that Ryan Daly has signed a commitment letter and will transfer into the program this Fall. He will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2019-20.
Daly, a 6-4 guard from Ardmore, Pa. (Archbishop Carroll H.S.), joins the Hawks after scoring over 1,000 points in two seasons at the University of Delaware. This past season, he averaged 17.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists, en route to earning All-Colonial Athletic Association Third Team honors. That followed a freshman season where he averaged 16.0 points and earned the CAA's Rookie of the Year Award.
Daly is the grandson of the late Jim Boyle '64, who was the head coach of the Hawks from 1981 to 1990, and is the son of Brian Daly '92, who played for the Hawks from 1989 to 1992. His mother, Tracie, is also an SJU alumnus.
“I'm excited that Ryan will be joining our team. He has a proven ability to score baskets, but its his work ethic and desire to improve that is most intriguing,” said Martelli.
Saint Joseph's won seven of its last nine games to finish the year 16-16 and reached the Atlantic 10 Semifinals. The Hawks will graduate their top two scorers, Shavar Newkirk and James Demery, but will return starters Lamarr Kimble and Charlie Brown, Jr., who were lost to injury this past season. Saint Joseph's roster for next year will also including 5-8 guard Jared Bynum (Georgetown Prep) as an incoming freshman.
