GILBERT, Ariz. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team is ranked 16th in the nation after the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, which was released on Tuesday morning.
The Hawks, 4-2 on the season, suffered a 6-3 defeat on Sunday against fourth-ranked Duke in a game played in Syracuse, N.Y., due to Hurricane Florence's arrival in North Carolina. The Blue Devils remained at #4 in this week's poll, behind North Carolina, Connecticut, and Maryland.
Princeton and Penn State, the Hawks' two preseason opponents, are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively. Prior opponents Delaware and Rutgers are slotted 15th and 17th, while future opponent Syracuse remains 12th in the poll.
Saint Joseph's returns home after a five-game road stretch on Friday afternoon when the Hawks host James Madison at 3:00 p.m. SJU will then play its first conference game of the season on Sunday when Massachusetts visits at noon. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
