Box Score MERION STATION, Pa. – A goal by Kayla Reed with less than seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter led #7 Michigan past the 11th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team, 4-3, on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• With bands of rain rolling through Hawk Hill throughout the game, it was Saint Joseph's (14-2) that took the lead midway through the opening quarter. Pepa Serrano fired off a shot that was saved by Michigan's Anna Spieker; Emily Sayre was there to send in the rebound and give the Hawks the lead with 6:40 to go in the period.
• Michigan (13-4) drew level with 1:09 to go in the quarter as Nina Apoola got loose and converted a pass from Kate Burney into her second goal of the season.
• The Hawks struck twice in the closing minutes of the second quarter to take a two-goal lead into the break. Sayre was involved once again, sending a ball toward the cage that Jordan Olenginski tipped past Spieker to put the Hawks back on top. Then, with 36 seconds to go, Kathrin Bentz scored on a corner to put SJU ahead, 3-1, as the heaviest rains of the afternoon poured down heading into halftime.
• The Wolverines took control out of the break, scoring just 89 seconds into the third quarter, as Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort fed Katie Anderson on a restart to cut the lead to a single goal. Five minutes later, Halle O'Neill equalized for Michigan on a penalty corner; both UM goals came with the Hawks down a player due to a yellow card.
• Both teams had opportunities on penalty corners in the final quarter, but it would be the visitors that got the winner as Reed's diving effort tipped a ball from O'Neill into the cage with 6:50 to play in the fourth. Unfortunately for the Hawks, they could not get an equalizer of their own and the Wolverines came away with the win.

• Victoria Kammerinke made six saves in the cage for SJU, while Spieker made three.
• The loss snaps the Hawks' 11-game winning streak and their 31-game home winning streak, which was the longest in the NCAA at any level. The Hawks' last loss at home came to #20 Albany on September 25, 2016, a span of 37 months and two days.
• After the game, the Hawks honored their graduating seniors. The Class of 2020 – Bentz, Kammerinke, Sayre, Serrano, Carolina Boxer, Courtney Gerber, Corinne Gerber, Dana Turner, and Kayla Walker – has won a program-record 65 games over the past four seasons, including a 35-4 mark at Ellen Ryan Field.
