Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Carolina Boxer totaled five points on Thursday afternoon as the 13th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team finished off a perfect Atlantic 10 regular season with a 4-2 win over La Salle at Hank DeVincent Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks came out of the gate quickly to take an early 2-0 lead. Jordan Olenginski struck for the 10th time this season just three minutes into the game on an assist from Tonya Botherway, while Boxer fired home from long range three minutes later to double the advantage.
• La Salle (7-11 overall, 3-5 Atlantic 10) got on the board with four minutes to play in the frame, however, as Samie Hackman tipped home a ball from Amanda Chapin on a corner opportunity.
• Emily Henry restored the two-goal lead for Saint Joseph's (15-2 overall, 8-0 Atlantic 10) by redirecting a ball from Boxer a minute into the second, but the Explorers got back within one with 10 minutes to go on another corner, this time by Rialee Allen, and sent the game into the break at 3-2.
• Boxer struck again midway through the third, shooting high over La Salle's Cassie Kincaid, for her second of the day and a 4-2 SJU lead after three quarters.
• The Hawks turned it over to the defense in the second half, holding the Explorers without a shot, and a scoreless fourth quarter saw off the Hawks' 20th consecutive Atlantic 10 conference victory.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• SJU outshot La Salle 10-0 in the second half and 20-4 for the afternoon. The Hawks were efficient, putting 17 of those shots on target. Kincaid made a season-high 12 saves for the hosts.
• La Salle leads the nation in penalty corners, averaging over 8.5 per game, but the Hawks conceded just five, with three of those coming in the first quarter. SJU earned 10 on the day, including a 7-1 edge in the second half.
• This is the third time in four years that the Hawks have finished 8-0 in the Atlantic 10; this year's senior class has posted a 31-1 record in conference play.
