Baseball Blanked at Fordham, 6-0

BRONX, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team wrapped up its weekend series at Fordham on Sunday, falling to the Rams by a 6-0 score.

After the first nine batters of the game went down in order, Fordham (20-12 overall, 6-3 Atlantic 10) took the lead when Nick Labella led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run.

The Rams' Anthony DiMeglio retired the first 10 Hawks he faced before Liam Bendo singled in the top of the fourth, but DiMeglio worked around the hit to keep Saint Joseph's (12-17 overall, 5-4 Atlantic 10) off the scoreboard.

The hosts put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, batting around and scoring five runs.  Justin Bardwell made it a 2-0 game with a one-out RBI single before a Labella sacrifice fly pushed the Fordham advantage to three.  Two batters later, C.J. Vazquez hit a three-run home run to double the lead to 6-0.

That would be all the offense DiMeglio would need, as he improved to 2-2 on the year with eight shutout innings.  He allowed three hits and issued one walk while striking out 10.  Hayden Seig took the loss for SJU after he was charged with three runs on three hits and four walks in 4.1 innings.

The Hawks will head to Villanova on Tuesday before their bye week from conference play.
