Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences men's basketball team did not trail Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North leader Dominican until midway through the second half, before the Chargers stormed back for a 77-65 win over the Devils at Bobby Morgan Arena on Saturday afternoon.
USciences scored the opening nine points of the afternoon over the first 2:36 and aside from being tied at 18-18 for 48 seconds, the Devils would lead until the 10:37 mark of the second half.
The Devils built a game-high 34-22 advantage when Jordan White made two free throws 4:52 ahead of the break and despite the Chargers getting as close four in the final minutes, Franklin Okpala's jumper made the score 38-30 entering the break.
University of the Sciences would also lead by double-digits, 44-33, in the second half after Thomas Melonja converted a three-point play 3:16 out of the locker room, before Dominican made their move with nine unanswered.
Following a White 3-pointer to shortly halt the momentum, the Chargers scored six straight to take their first advantage, 48-47.
That was the first of five second half lead changes, with Javon Gordon's layup giving USciences it last advantage, 55-44, with 7:20 to play.
It took Dominican (17-5, 10-3 CACC) 10 seconds to regain the lead for good on a 3-pointer, sparking a 10-0 run that the Devils could not recover from.
White led all players with 22 points as he made all seven of his free throw attempts and 3-of-5 3-pointers, while also leading USciences with three steals and two blocks.
Murphy recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and team-highs of 10 rebounds and five assists.
Gordon also finished with 11 points, while Melonja made it four Devils in double-figures with 10 points.
University of the Sciences returns to the road for an 8 p.m. matchup at Georgian Court on Wednesday.
