Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Zachary Foley and Sean Simon combined for 43 points, and the USciences men's basketball team made 17 3-pointers, one shy of a recorded program record, as the Devils celebrated the induction of Garret Kerr into the CACC Hall of Fame with a 73-68 victory over Holy Family on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena.
Kerr became the third USciences representative (Bobby Morgan and Chrissy Woodruff) to be inducted into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Hall of Fame, as well as the first-ever honoree to be inducted in their first year of eligibility, prior to the contest.
Foley surpassed his previous career-best by 10 points, pouring in a game-high 25 on 6-of-10 field goals, 5-of-9 3-pointers and a perfect 8-of-8 free throws.
Simon added 18 in 19 minutes off the bench, making 6-of-11 from beyond the arc to move into fourth in program history with 170 career triples.
The senior also provided the dagger, as it was his trifecta that put USciences ahead 67-60 with just 48 seconds left.
Foley and Jordan Davidson made sure that was enough, combining to go 6-of-6 from the line in the final 29 seconds to thwart any potential Holy Family comeback.
Davidson also made both of his 3-point attempts to join Foley and Simon in double-figures with 10 points, all of which came in the second half.
University of the Sciences made 17-of-39 (43.6 percent) from beyond the arc as a team to fall one triple shy of the recorded program record (since 2005-06) set earlier this year on Jan. 22 against Felician.
Matthew McCaffrey tied Austin Kennedy and Jaakko Juusela for the team lead with six rebounds, and he also led all players with a season-best six assists, to go along with seven points.
Foley made four 3-pointers in a span of 3:32 to match a game-high 11-point advantage, 20-9, just under eight minutes in.
University of the Sciences held two other 11-point leads, and the Devils were still up by double-figures, 28-18, when Simon made a triple with just under eight minutes left in the first half.
Holy Family made it a single-possession game momentarily, 34-31, 1:03 ahead of the break, but Foley knocked down two free throws with nine seconds showing to make the score 36-31 entering the locker room.
USciences led by as many as seven, 43-36, early in the second half when McCaffrey found Davidson for a layup with 16:42 remaining, but HFU would take its first advantage since the 15:04 mark of the first half when a 3-pointer capped eight unanswered just 2:51 later.
University of the Sciences immediately countered with a Kennedy triple, sparking an 11-3 run that put the Devils on top 54-48 when Davidson made a trifecta with 10:24 to play.
This time Holy Family scored seven unanswered, taking one final lead, 55-54, on a layup with 6:28 remaining.
A Foley 3-pointer and two Tiger free throws tied the score one final time, at 57, with 4:53 to go.
USciences took the lead for good when Davidson found McCaffrey for a layup 26 seconds later, before a Foley jumper and Simon triple with 3:07 showing capped seven unanswered for the Devils.
Holy Family could not make it a one-possession game after.
