DMR, 4x800m Relay Score at IC4A Indoor Championships

Sophomore Javier Linares
BOSTON – The Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad scored in two of its three relays at the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center this weekend. Between the sixth-place Distance Medley Relay and eighth-place 4x800m relay, the Hawks recorded four points to tie for 32nd among 35 scoring teams. The meet served as the finale for the Hawks' 2020 indoor season.

SJU's DMR of sophomore George Steinhoff, senior Justin Moscoe, senior Will Davies, and freshman Matthew Coffey crossed in 9:59.71 for three points while the 4x800m relay of junior Joshua Richard, sophomore Michael Szwed, sophomore Javier Linares, and sophomore Aidan Sauer recorded a time of 7:35.87 for one point.

In addition to running on scoring relays, five of those legs ran in open events in Saturday's preliminaries, including Moscoe in the 400m (11th, 48.38 PR), Davies in the 500m (14th, 1:05.42 PR), Szwed (23rd, 1:54.93) and Richard (24th, 1:55.58) in the 800m, and Steinhoff in the 1000m (15th, 2:28.68 PR).

Senior standout Zach Michon concluded a decorated indoor career with a 12th-place finish in Saturday's mile trials. Despite turning in the seventh-fastest time in the preliminaries field of 30, Michon finished third in his heat (4:10.09), just .24 seconds behind the heat's runner-up, and missed qualification for the 10-member final.

Junior Matthew Scarpill raced the 3000m, turning in a PR time of 8:22.50 to win his heat and place 12th in the 33-member field.

Saint Joseph's 4x400m relay of junior Sebastian Eaton, Moscoe, freshman Ladi Bamgbose, and sophomore Michael Welde crossed in 3:18.56 for 16th overall.

Welde (18th, 48.99) and Eaton (26th, 49.60) also raced the open 400m alongside Moscoe while sophomores Kyle Magee (500m, 17th, 1:05.93 PR) and Ira Daly (1000m, 25th, 2:34.71) added individual finishes in open events.

Saint Joseph's will open the 2020 outdoor season on Saturday, March 28 at the Rider 6-Way Meet in Lawrenceville, N.J.
