Men's Basketball Downed by Late Millersville Surge in Back and Forth Affair

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – In a game played within five points throughout its entirety, featuring 32 ties and 28 lead changes, an 8-1 run over the final 3:47 ultimately gave Millersville a hard-fought 61-56 over the USciences men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena.

The Marauders (4-0) took the first of two game-high five-point leads with a free throw to make the score 31-26 50 seconds ahead of the break, only to have an Austin Kennedy 3-pointer beat the halftime buzzer.

Millersville then scored the first basket out of the locker room only to have Darryl Brown Jr. answer, and the game was played within one possession until six straight Marauder points made the score 53-49 with 6:48 remaining.

University of the Sciences responded with six unanswered of its own, the final two on a Jordan Davidson layup with 4:46 showing.

The Devils would score only one more point though, as Millersville tied it up 59 seconds later before the final lead change came at the 3:11 mark.

USciences made it a one-possession game one final time, 59-56, on a Kennedy free through with 1:59 to play, but the Devils could not take advantage of a Marauder turnover as they turned it over themselves.

Kevin Yonkeu, making his collegiate debut, blocked a shot on the following possession, but Millersville got the offensive rebound and would ice the game with two free throws as USciences missed three 3-pointers in the final 47 seconds.

Davidson led all players with a career-19 points off the bench, while also pulling down a career-best seven boards.

Brown Jr. led USciences in rebounds, falling one shy of a double-double with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting while also blocking a game-high two shots.

Kennedy and Joemel McNair each added eight points, with Kennedy leading all players with a career-best four steals.

University of the Sciences closes out a three-game home-stand when it hosts Le Moyne next Sunday at 2 p.m.
