Huber's Strong Second Half Helps Women's Basketball Hold off Bemidji State, 57-54

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – Jess Huber scored the Devils' final 10 points, capping a 20-point second half, helping the USciences women's basketball team overcome yet another double-digit deficit to hold off Bemidji State, 57-54, in a neutral matchup on Friday evening.

A one-point game, 40-39, entering the fourth, three Taylor Hamm points and two Kendall Keyes free throws made it a two-possession lead, 45-39, with 6:54 remaining.

From that point forward each time Bemidji State made it a one-possession game, at the 5:53, 4:09, 1:36 and 54-second marks, Huber had the response.

She did so first with back-to-back 2-pointers, before answering a Beavers triple with one of her own 28 seconds later to re-establish yet another five-point lead, 54-49, with 1:08 to go.

Bemidji State kept the pressure on with yet another 3-pointer 14 seconds after, but Huber would rebound her own miss before being fouled and making two free throws to ice the game with 12 seconds left.

That capped her 10-point quarter and team-high 20-point performance, which included going 4-of-5 from the line.

Anna McTamney had a second straight solid shooting day off the bench, making 5-of-7 field goals and both of her 3-point attempts to finish as the Devils' second-leading scorer with 12 points.

Hamm added 10 points, falling one rebound shy of her second career double-double.

Bemidji State (2-1) tallied the first 12 points of the contest, but Keyes and McTamney combined for 11 unanswered over the final 2:19 of the first to make it a one-point game, before USciences outscored the Beavers 16-8 in the second quarter to take a 27-20 halftime advantage.

The Devils scored the last six points of the first half - the final four of which were by Shannon May - and the first six points of the second half - the last three coming on a Hamm and-one - to take the game's largest lead, 33-20, just 1:56 out of the locker room.

Bemidji State responded with 15 unanswered to quickly go back on top, but Huber would score USciences' final seven points of the third quarter to give the Devils the lead for good, 40-38, on her layup 29 seconds ahead of the buzzer.

The Devils close out their three-game road-trip in Florida with yet another neutral matchup at Southeastern on Saturday, this one coming against Concordia-St. Paul at 3 p.m.
