Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Trailing 20-17 at the half, the USciences women's basketball team outscored Wilmington 51-13 in the second to ultimately right the ship in 68-33 victory over Wilmington in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) home opener at Bobby Morgan Arena on Tuesday evening.
University of the Sciences shot 69.0 percent (20-of-29) from the floor after the break, while holding the Wildcats to 22.7 percent (5-of-22).
The 33 points were the fewest by a Devils opponent since Chestnut Hill had 31 on Dec. 8, 2018.
All 12 Devils to dress scored, led by Jess Huber netting all of her team-high 14 points in the second half.
Her 3-pointer with 5:37 remaining in the third quarter gave USciences the lead for good, 28-25, and was part of a 21-2 run to end the stanza, highlighted by freshman Shayla Johnson making three jumpers over the final 1:54.
Johnson was the Devils' third-leading scorer, netting her first eight collegiate points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Fellow freshmen Bria Johnson (four) and Allison Waters (three) also scored their first collegiate points, while freshman Anna McTamney joined Huber in double-figures with 10.
University of the Sciences' fifth freshman, Dayna Balasa, tied Kendall Keyes as the fourth-leading Devils scorer with six points.
Shannon May pulled down a career-best nine rebounds to lead USciences, while Isla Brennan led all players with a career-best four assists and Taylor Hamm blocked a game-high two shots.
Juliana Gura's five rebounds and three assists were both second on the team, and Kerry Patterson notably added a season-best four points.
University of the Sciences continues its three-game home-stand on Saturday, hosting Goldey-Beacom at 1 p.m.
