NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Saint Joseph's men's cross country squad has earned 2020 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic honors, organization officials announced on Thursday afternoon. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country All-Academic Team, a program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.

The entire squad combined for a cumulative GPA of 3.62.

Matthew Scarpill earned individual 2020 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country All-Academic recognition. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction on the individual level, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have either qualified for the national championship meet or finished top-5 at their respective conference championship. Overall, there were 187 men who were named All-Academic individuals in NCAA Division I.

Scarpill exceeds the 3.25 GPA requirement in actuarial science at SJU and finished fourth in a field of 112 runners at the 2020-21 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship on March 5.
