PHILADELPHIA – Freshman
Patrick Fehm won both the triple jump and high jump titles to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad at the unscored Quaker Invitational, held at Penn's Franklin Field on Saturday afternoon. Also earning wins were junior captain
Kyle Magee (400m hurdles), junior
Ira Daly (1500m), freshman
Donald Adams (long jump), and the 4x100m relay of captains
Vincent Giordano,
Justin Moscoe,
Sebastian Eaton, and
David Bryant.
Â
Fehm dropped a triple jump mark of 48' 7 1/4" to easily surpass TCNJ's Jaiden Elliott (46' 2") and La Salle's Ben Wolfe (41' 5") for his first collegiate win. The jump, which head coach
Mike Glavin considers the "Performance of the Meet," was over two feet further than Fehm's previous PR and brings Fehm from eighth to third on SJU's Outdoor Track and Field All-Time Top-Ten Performers List, behind SJU recordholder Ed Lennex (54' 7 1/2", 1976) and Chris Green (49' 3 1/4", 1984).
Â
The rookie standout went on to win the high jump with a mark of 6' 5", his second-highest finish in four opportunities this season.
Â
Magee won his second 400m hurdles title of the season (and third of his career), clocking in with a collegiate-best time of 54.13 to win the event in the field of four by over four seconds. The junior captain has now raced the 400m hurdles three times on the season, taking home two wins and a runner-up finish.
Â
Daly turned in a breakthrough performance in the 1500m, dropping his first sub-4:00 race (3:56.32 PR) to crush his previous PR in the event by over four seconds for his first collegiate win.
Â
In the fourth long jump opportunity of his young career, Adams posted a collegiate-best mark of 22' 1 3/4" to win the event over La Salle's Wolfe (19' 8 1/4").
Â
Saint Joseph's veteran 4x100m relay of Giordano, Moscoe, Eaton, and Bryant cruised to a time of 42.01, edging out TCNJ (42.44) for the title. The group missed the school record (41.54, 2009) by just .47 seconds.
Â
Moscoe added a second-place finish in the open 100m field of eight (11.05) and a third-place finish in the 200m field of 12 (21.95). Bryant (3rd, 11.11 PR) and Giordano (5th, 11.22) also earned top-five finishes in the open 100m while Eaton led the squad in the 400m field of 11 (4th, 49.81 PR) and finished fifth in the 200m (22.38).
Â
Also of note, sophomore
Matthew Coffey (4:00.91) and senior
Brendan Price (4:02.59 PR) placed third and fourth, respectively, behind Daly in the 1500m while freshman
Gavin Campbell improved upon his 800m time from last weekend by over three seconds to place fourth in the field of 15 in a collegiate-best time of 1:54.09.
Â
Saint Joseph's returns to action at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Championships next Saturday, April 24, to be held at Penn's Franklin Field.
