NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second time in his career, Saint Joseph's recent graduate distance standout Matthew Scarpill has been voted onto the Atlantic 10 Men's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The team is comprised of student-athletes who were selected based on their performance on the trails as well as in the classroom. To be nominated, runners must have a GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for their entire academic career. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors.

In SJU's two cross country races this spring, Scarpill placed fourth at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship and fifth at the Spider/Patriot Classic. A native of Warrington, Pa., Scarpill graduated from SJU last month with his bachelor's degree in actuarial science.

Freshman David DelBonis was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team as one of the top seven rookie finishers at the A-10 Championship. The rookie finished 21st overall and is joined on the A-10 team by Bryce Conley, Sam Duncan, and Matthew Sollenberger (Dayton), Wesley Bond (George Mason), Taonga Mbambo (La Salle), and Stuart Terrill (Richmond).
