Women’s Basketball Hosts Richmond for Conference Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's women's basketball is set to host Richmond on Wednesday for its Atlantic 10 home opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Hagan Arena with the game streaming nationally on ESPN+ and internationally through the Atlantic 10.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks are 4-9 on the year and 0-1 in A-10 play after a comeback bid fell just short at VCU on Sunday.
  • Senior Lovin Marsicano and rookie Talya Brugler posted career numbers in the near comeback. Marsicano dropped a career best 23 points, while Brugler added a career high 19 points and tied her mark with eight rebounds en route to being named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week.
  • St. Joe's is scoring 59.6 ppg and allowing 62.0 ppg with the Hawks connecting on 39.9% from the field, 32.4% from three-point range, and 70.8% from the charity stripe.
  • Eight Hawks are posting at least 4.6 points per outing this season.
  • Gradaute student Katie Jekot is the Hawks' leader in points (11.1), assists (3.8), and steals (1.9). The Enola, Pa. native posts a 1.84 assist to turnover ratio, which ranks fifth in the conference. Her assists per game also rank her sixth in the league. She's tallied double figure scoring totals in six of her last seven games.
  • Junior Kaliah Henderson sits second overall with 10.8 ppg. Henderson posts a team high 5.3 rpg. She's registered 10+ points in 50% of her games played this year.
  • Rookies Brugler, Laila Fair, Julia Nyström, and Mackenzie Smith have all made significant impacts this season. In fact, Brugler and Smith are the only Hawks to play in all 13 games this season. The group is accounting for 37% of St. Joe's points this season.
ABOUT RICHMOND:
  • The Spiders enter play 11-4 overall and 2-0 in league play under third year head coach Aaron Roussell. Richmond is riding a seven-game winning streak ahead of Wednesday's matchup.
  • Richmond is averaging 74.8 points for and 64.5 points against this season, while shooting 46.3% from the floor, 36.0% from long range, and 75.0% from the line.
  • Five Spiders are averaging at least 9.4 points per game this season, with four in double figures.
  • Addie Budnik (13.5), Kate Klimkiewicz (13.0), Emma Squires (10.9), and Siobhan Ryan (10.1) lead the crew with all four having played in every game this season.
  • Budnik and Klimkiewicz also sit as the team's leading rebounders with 6.3 and 5.9 rpg, respectively.
