PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's returns to action on Wednesday with its second-straight road contest. The Hawks will head to the Bronx for a battle against Fordham. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game streaming nationally on ESPN+.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • St. Joe's enters play 6-10 overall and 2-2 in league play after a 77-70 victory at St. Bonaventure this past Saturday.
  • In the game against the Bonnies, four Hawks tallied double digit scoring totals, led by rookie Mackenzie Smith with a career high 25 points. Smith also posted a game high eight rebounds – the best of her career. Freshman Talya Brugler posted her second career double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
  • SJU is scoring 61.9 points for and allowing 62.4 points against, while shooting 40.9% overall, 34.0% from deep, and 70.9% from the line.
  • After her performance against the Bonnies and La Salle, Smith was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. She averaged 21.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.0% (14-of-28) overall, 54.5% (6-of-11) from deep, and 80.0% (8-of-10) from the line.
  • Graduate student Katie Jekot leads the Hawks in scoring (10.5), assists (5.0), steals (1.9), and assist to turnover ratio (2.42). Her assists and assist to turnover ratio rank third in both categories in the Atlantic 10 and 39th and 19th in the nation, respectively. In the Hawks' four league games this season, she's handed out 33 assists to just eight turnovers (8.3 apg, 4.1 assist to turnover).
  • Brugler is the Hawks second active leading scorer with 9.2 points and is their active leading rebounder at 4.8 boards per game. Since conference play started, Brugler picked up back-to-back rookie of the week awards and is the Hawks leader in points (15.5) and rebounds (9.5). In those four A-10 matchups, the Nazareth, Pa. native has recorded a pair of double-doubles and scored 10+ points in all four games and five straight dating back to the last non-conference game against Harvard.
  • Smith is scoring 8.8 points per game and is the Atlantic 10's top three-point shooter in terms of field goal percentage at 50.0%. Since league play has begun, Smith has averaged 14.5 points per game and is shooting 47.6% overall and 53.3% from deep, while adding 5.0 rebounds per outing.
  • Alongside Brugler and Smith, freshman Laila Fair and Julia Nyström make up the Hawks active rookie class. The group as a whole have combined for 43.1% of SJU's scoring overall with that number bumping to 56.4% in A-10 play. Brugler and Smith are the only Hawks to play in all 16 games this season.
ABOUT FORDHAM:
  • The Rams are 13-5, 4-1 A-10 entering Wednesday's game under 11th year head coach Stephanie Gaitley.
  • Fordham is scoring 63.9 points and allowing 58.4 points per game as the Rams shoot 40.1% from the floor, 30.8% from deep, and 74.9% from the stripe.
  • Four Rams are scoring at least 8.1 points per game on average.
  • Anna DeWolfe leads the team with 19.8 points per game and is shooting 41.1% overall and 33.6% from long range.
  • Asiah Dingle (14.1), Kendall Heremaia (11.1), and Kaitlyn Downey (8.1) round out the top four scorers. All four have started at least 16 games this season.
  • Heremaia leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per outing, with Dingle leading in assists per game at 3.0.
