PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's women's basketball will host Massachusetts on Saturday for Alumnae Day. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the game streaming nationally on ESPN+ and internationally through the Atlantic 10.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks are 6-11, 2-3 A-10 after Wednesday's loss at Fordham.
  • SJU is averaging 60.4 points for and 62.0 points against, while shooting 40.2% from the field, 33.2% from long range, and 70.9% from the stripe.
  • Graduate student Katie Jekot leads the Hawks in scoring (10.2), assists (4.8), steals (1.9), and assist to turnover ratio (2.08).
  • Rookie Talya Brugler is the next leading scorer for St. Joe's with 9.3 points per game. She's become the team's top rebounder with 4.9 per game and has led the Hawks in rebounding in six games this season, including four-straight.
  • Freshman Mackenzie Smith is the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. She's averaging 8.5 points per game and is leading the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 47.6%.
  • Graduate student Alayna Gribble (7.7) and rookie Laila Fair (7.5) round out a cohort of scorers above 7.5 ppg.
  • St. Joe's freshmen are playing a major role for the Hawks this season. The class is accounting for 44.2% of scoring with that number jumping to 58.4% in league games.
ABOUT MASSACHUSETTS:
  • UMass enters Saturday 15-5 overall and 3-3 in league play, having lost three of its last four games.
  • The Minutewomen are scoring 71.1 points for and allowing 61.3 points against, while shooting 42.4% from the floor, 32.5% from deep, and 66.1% from the line.
  • Five athletes are posting 9.2 ppg or better, led by Sam Breen with 16.8. She also leads the team in rebounding with 11.0 per outing. Breen leads the conference and is ninth in the nation in double-doubles with 12.
  • Sydney Taylor (15.1), Destiny Philoxy (11.5), Ber'Nyah Mayo (9.8), and Angelique Ngalakulondi (9.2) round out the team's top scorers.
  • Philoxy is pacing UMass with 5.2 assists per game, which also leads the Atlantic 10.
