Box Score WILMINGTON, Del. – Coming off a career-high 30-point performance on Saturday, Jess Huber was somehow even better on Tuesday evening as she set a new program record with 45 points in the USciences women's basketball team's 64-56 win at Goldey-Beacom.
The 45 points are tied for the most by a Division II student-athlete over the last two seasons.
They are also tied for the eighth-most in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) Division II history, and the most by a CACC student-athlete since 2014.
Only three student-athletes in the CACC's Division II history have now scored 45 points.
Huber surpassed her previous career-high of 30 in the second half alone, when she poured in 17 in the third and 15 more in the fourth to outscore GBC 32-24.
Overall she made 14-of-22 field goals, 6-of-11 3-pointers and all 11 of her free throw attempts. She shot 9-of-13 overall, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and 10-of-10 from the foul line in the second half.
The graduate student became the sixth student-athlete in program history to surpass 200 career 3-pointers in the performance, in which she also led USciences with eight rebounds.
Huber and the Devils meanwhile found themselves trailing by as many as 13 in the second quarter, and by seven, 32-25, at halftime.
University of the Sciences was still down eight, 34-26, nearly three and a half minutes into the third until a Taylor Hamm layup got the Devils going.
Huber took over from there, scoring 12 of the game's next 13 points, ultimately putting USciences on top for good, 36-35, with two free throws at the 3:53 mark of the third quarter.
That was part of a stretch in which she scored 20 straight Devils points.
She outscored Goldey-Beacom 14-3 over the final 5:14 of the third quarter to help USciences establish a 45-38 advantage entering the final 10 minutes, and it was her triple 20 seconds into the fourth that put the Devils on top by double-digits for the first time.
Goldey-Beacom fought back to as close as five three times, including at 56-51 with 3:36 remaining, but Huber just proved to be too much as she scored the next two baskets, before going on to make 4-of-4 free throws in the final 16 seconds.
Hamm was second on USciences with seven points and six boards, the latter of which matched Shannon May, who led the Devils with five assists and two steals.
A three-point play to end the first quarter gave Goldey a 19-12 advantage after 10 minutes of play, and the Lightning hit back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the second to establish the game-high 13-point lead.
University of the Sciences got as close as four points, 27-23, in the second, on a May layup with 3:43 showing, but GBC responded with five unanswered to eventually take the 32-25 advantage into the locker room.
The Devils return home for the first time in two weeks to host city-rival HoLy Family this Saturday at 1 p.m.
