Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences women's basketball team outscored Jefferson 9-0 over the final 1:01 to break a deadlock for an emphatic 58-49 triumph, the Devils' 10th straight, over their regionally-ranked rival on Wednesday night.

The result means USciences will host a quarterfinal game for the fifth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament in a row the Devils welcome an opponent yet to be determined to Bobby Morgan Arena for a 6 p.m. tip next Tuesday, March 1.

The result also means that University of the Sciences has won 20 games in each of the last five seasons, all of which have now all featured a dougle-digit win streak.

The Devils will look to capture a fifth consecutive CACC South Division title when they close out their regular season hosting another regionally-ranked city-rival in Chestnut Hill on Saturday, with the winner also securing the No. 1 overall seed in the CACC Tournament.

Prior to the 1 p.m. tip, University of the Sciences will honor its five seniors: Juliana Gura, Taylor Hamm, Jess Huber, Kendall Keyes and Shannon May

The score remained tied at 49-49 for over two minutes after Anna McTamney evened things up one final time on two free throws with 3:05 to play.

Following four empty possessions, it was also McTamney who put the provided the final lead change when Huber found her for the layup that began the game-ending surge.

After a Jefferson turnover, Huber provided what turned out to be the dagger on a 3-pointer that May not only set up, but was also fouled on while setting a screen.

May would go on to sink both free throws and after yet another Jefferson giveaway led to two Huber foul shots, the graduate student provided the exclamation point by forcing yet another Rams turnover, their third over the final 50 seconds.

That capped a performance in which May led all players with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals, to go along with 10 points.

She played a large role in USciences winning the turnover battle 13-6, which led to a 18-4 edge in points off turnovers.

Huber tied a game-high with 13 points, all of which came in the second half, while Keyes made it three Devils in double-figures with 12, draining 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Gura scored all of her career-best eight points in the first half, while McTamney added seven as the Devils' bench outscored Jefferson's 21-11.

Jefferson (20-7, 12-5 CACC) built its largest lead of the night, 11-5, just four and a half minutes in, but USciences would rally to tie the score at 17 after 10 minutes of play.

The Rams then scored four of the first six points of the second quarter, only to have back-to-back Gura layups cap nine unanswered that helped lift the Devils to a 28-25 halftime advantage.

Kerry Patterson scored all four of her points as part of six straight points that established the largest advantage of the night, 40-29, on her layup with 2:32 left in the third quarter.

Jefferson scored the final eight points of the period though, before five unanswered to begin the fourth capped a 13-0 run for a 42-40 advantage with 8:54 to go.

That started a final quarter that was played within a single possession, with six lead changes and four ties, until Huber's 3-pointer with 36 seconds remaining.
