Women's Basketball Advances to Fifth Consecutive CACC Semifinal After Final Home Event on USciences' Campus

PHILADELPHIA – In USciences' final home event on campus, the women's basketball advanced to a fifth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Semifinal with a 58-40 triumph over Dominican on Tuesday evening at Bobby Morgan Arena.

University of the Sciences advances to play Post, the No. 1 seed from the North Division, at Caldwell in the CACC Semifinals this Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Devils were only ahead 24-18 minutes into the third quarter until Jess Huber scored five points in 37 seconds to establish the game's first double-digit advantage, 29-18, with 6:42 showing on the clock.  

Dominican fought back to within seven, 31-24, 2:32 ahead of the fourth quarter, but back-to-back 3-poiners by Isla Brennan made it a double-digit game for good.

University of the Sciences would go on to open the final period on a 21-6 run as the Devils outscored the Chargers 34-22 in the second half.

Huber, named the CACC Player of the Year this morning, scored more than double the amount of any other player with 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting.

The graduate student made 3-of-6 3-pointers to move into a tie for 10th in the program's single-season record book with 62 on the year. 

Brenann (4-of-5 field goals) and Taylor Hamm were also in double-figures with 11 and 10, respectively, with Hamm leading all players with five assists and two blocks, to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.

Shannon May led all players with three steals, adding four points, four rebounds and four assists.

University of the Sciences has now held its opponent to 40 points or fewer in 25 percent of its games. The Devils notably held a 21-6 edge in points off turnovers.

The two teams traded the opening four baskets, before a Huber 3-pointer to make the score 7-4 2:02 in put USciences on top for good.

She followed that with a jumper 47 seconds later for her seventh point in the opening 2:39.

3-pointers by Anna McTamney and Huber helped the Devils establish a 15-10 lead following 10 minutes of play and after Dominican also got as close as one, 17-16, halfway through the second period, back-to-back baskets by Hamm re-established a five-point advantage, 21-16, 3:50 ahead of the break.

The Chargers responded with a basket just 14 seconds later but following over three and a half scoreless minutes, Brennan's 3-poiner at the buzzer gave USciences its largest lead at the time, 24-18, entering the locker room.
