Men’s Lacrosse Set for First-Ever NCAA Tournament Game

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – #18/18/20 Saint Joseph's will take on #12/6/7 Yale Saturday for the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament game. Opening faceoff is set for 5 p.m. with the game being nationally televised on ESPNU.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • In his 11th season at the helm of the program, head coach Taylor Wray was voted NEC Coach of the Year for a record sixth time after leading the Hawks to a program record 14 wins this season. Wray's group defeated Hobart in the NEC Championship game to claim the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Face-off specialist Zach Cole picked up his second-consecutive NEC Player of the Year award and NEC First Team All-Conference selection after leading the nation in face-off winning percentage and ground balls per game. He was named a USA Lacrosse Magazine First Team All-American earlier in the week.
  • The Hawks are the only team in nation to have five players with 40+ points and four players with 50+ points. SJU's offense is ranked 15th nationally with 13.88 goals per game.
  • Defensively, the Crimson and Gray rank eighth in the country with 10.00 goals allowed per outing.
  • Goalkeeper Robbie Seeley is fourth in the nation with an 8.84 goals-against average after being inserted into the starting lineup against Towson.
ABOUT YALE:
  • The Bulldogs fell to Penn in the Ivy League Championship game and garnered an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Matt Brandau is top five in the nation offensively. He has a team-high 91 points on 52 goals and 39 assists.
  • He's joined by Leo Johnson (56) and Chris Lyons (40) as the only others with 40 points or better this season.
  • Jared Paquette (11-4) has made every start this season for Yale. He has a 12.76 goals-against average, 190 saves, and a .519 save percentage.
