PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's Head Coach
Billy Lange has announced that
Chris Flegler has been elevated to director of basketball operations, and
Casey Woodford has been promoted to video specialist.
"We are thrilled to announce the promotions of
Chris Flegler and
Casey Woodford," Lange said. "Both have gained the respect and admiration of our entire program with their work ethic, competitiveness, and focus on relationships."
As director of basketball operations, Flegler's responsibilities will focus on using video and data for game preparation, statistical analysis, and research projects for team development. He also coordinates the graduate manager program, crafts the agendas for coaches meetings, and coordinates all daily program logistics.
Earning his MBA from Saint Joseph's this past May, Flegler joined Lange's staff in 2021-22 as a graduate assistant before being promoted to video specialist last summer. Prior to Hawk Hill, Flegler served as a coach at Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Cardozo High School, St. Mary's College of Maryland, and ASA College. A graduate of Livingstone College with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Flegler served as an assistant coach with the Blue Bears for two seasons.
"Chris is a budding head coach with a high-level ability to connect with all people. Our team members trust him and look to him for authentic mentorship," Lange said. "He has a high work rate and an appropriate level of intensity with a desire to learn and improve. We view the director of basketball operations as a cultural leadership position and Chris possesses the skill set and upside to be the CEO of his role."
In his new role as video specialist, Woodford will assist all members of the staff on various duties including video editing, statistical analysis, player development, and other operational and program-related duties. Spending the past two seasons as a graduate manager with the Hawks, Woodford earned a master's degree in business intelligence and analytics from Saint Joseph's last month. A 2021 graduate of Penn State, Woodford served as a manager for the Nittany Lions' basketball program before coming to Hawk Hill.
"Casey is an NBA-level video coordinator; his capacity for work and creativity is as good as any I have ever worked with," said Lange. "He helps the coaches with new ideas, trends, and projects that allow us to study and evaluate in a way that helps us learn best. He has developed progressive video edits that assist our players with their individual development and learning of team concepts. He has a great lens for what our guys need and how they can learn; it's truly high level."
