NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's graduate student Hailey Bitters was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday afternoon.
 
Bitters tallied in each game this weekend as the Hawks opened conference play with a win over VCU before topping a ranked Delaware squad.  The Delmar, Maryland, native opened the scoring on Friday on a penalty corner as the Hawks used a smothering second-half effort to blank the Rams, 2-0.
 
On Sunday, her grit and hustle paid off in a huge goal as she intercepted a back pass and slotted it home to double a one-goal lead early in the second half; the Hawks would eventually seal a 3-1 win over #19 Delaware to finish off a two-win weekend.
 
Bitters and the Hawks take their first conference road trip of the season this week when they visit Lock Haven on Friday.
