Men's Basketball Opens Big 5 Play Tuesday As Hawks Host Villanova

NEWS & NOTES                
• Saint Joseph's opens Big 5 play on Tuesday as the Hawks host Villanova in a CBS Sports Network televised matchup at Hagan Arena.

• The Hawks enter Tuesday with a 135-120 all-time record in the Big 5 and have captured 21 titles, including last year's inaugural Big 5 Classic crown.

• All-time, the Wildcats hold a 55-26 edge in the series, but the Hawks are coming off a 78-65 victory at #18/15 Villanova a season ago.

• Tuesday marks just the 15th time Saint Joseph's has hosted Villanova on Hawk Hill.

• The Hawks are 2-12 in those previous 14 matchups, and are 1-5 against the Wildcats at Hagan Arena.

• St. Joe's last win over Villanova on Hawk Hill came on December 17, 2011 as Langston Galloway scored 20 points in a 74-58 victory.

• Saint Joseph's head coach Billy Lange previously served as a coach at Villanova under Jay Wright twice; from 2001–2004 Lange was an assistant coach, and from 2011–2013 as associate head coach.

• Saint Joseph's is looking to bounce back after a 73-67 loss to Central Connecticut on Friday.

• Rasheer Fleming posted a game-high 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for his first double-double of the season against the Blue Devils.

• Xzayvier Brown finished with 16 points, five boards and five assists on Friday.

• Over the opening two games, Brown has averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

• Derek Simpson was the third Hawk in double figures against Central Connecticut as the junior scored 10 point to go with three assists and two steals.

• St. Joe's returns seven letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's squad that went 21-14 overall, captured the inaugural Big 5 Classic title and earned a NIT bid.

• Despite returning seven letterwinners, the Hawks have one of the youngest rosters in the country with just one senior (Erik Reynolds II) and one graduate student (Justice Ajogbor), and the other 85.7 percent consisting of freshmen (six), sophomores (four) and juniors (two).
