Men’s Track and Field Produce Plethora of Personal Bests at Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team competed at the Widener Invitational over the weekend, scoring personal bests throughout the meet on the track.
 
FRIDAY TRACK RESULTS
  • Gavin Campbell (1:51.56) and Owen Moelter (1:54.42) opened the meet in the 800m. Campbell set a new PR in the event, knocking nearly a second off his previous best time.
  • Kevin Jumper was one of four Hawks in the 5000m, winning the race with a time of 14:34.26 to clear the field by over five seconds. Jumper set a new PR with the result, shaving six seconds off his time. Dawson Baptiste (14:55.15) and Carter Geer (15:29.78) also set PRs in the event.
  • Will Rau finished with a fifth-place time in the 1500m, crossing the line with a time of 3:47.56 to knock more than eight seconds off of his previous best time set a week ago in Princeton.
  • Ian Romea closed out Friday's action with the 10,000m, making a debut in the event to place sixth with a time of 31:56.74. Romea posted the top time among collegiate athletes.
 
SATURDAY TRACK RESULTS
  • The men started day two with the 1500m open race, Josh Forrest setting a new eight second PR with a time of 3:53.54 to finish third. Evan McGregor also added a new PR with his time of 3:59.11, just edging out teammate Anthony Gargani's 3:59.17 effort. Anton Bovone was the third Hawk in the event to set a PR, the freshman finishing with a time of 4:01.07.
  • In the 400m, both Jake Carrubba and James Mackey Jr. broke the sub-50 second mark for the first time to set personal records. Carrubba's time of 49.50s was good for 11th, while Mackey Jr. recorded a 49.86s finish. Michael Brittingham nearly eclipsed the mark with a time of 50.54s.
  • Benjamin Henry took the second-fastest time in the 100m, setting a new PR with a time of 10.78s. Adam Petersen (11.26s) and Logan Henry (11.29s) finished neck-and-neck of each other, while Darren Cammauf (11.40s) and Cameron Campbell-Miller (11.51s) rounded out the group of five Hawks that all set personal bests in the event.
  • In the open 800m, Michael Glavin set a new personal best with a time of 1:55.01 to finish fourth. Teammate Tomek Przybylak finished just behind Glavin with a time of 1:55.20 to earn fifth. Immanuel Rota-Talarico placed 10th with a time of 1:56.09 while Evan McGregor timed at 1:57.75 as the two set personal bests in the deep eight-Hawk entry in the event.
  • Luke Noss' time of 55.10s in the 400m hurdles was good for fifth in the event for a seasonal best.
  • Benjamin Henry returned to the track for his second podium finish of the afternoon, placing third in the 200m with a time of 21.52s to set a new PR. Carrubba and Mackey Jr. also added personal bests with times of 22.69s and 23.15s, respectively.
  • Aidan Doherty and Ryan Cichocki each set personal bests in the 3000m steeplechase, only hundredths of a second separating the two runners. Doherty just edged out his teammate with a time of 9:42.19 to place second, Cichocki settling for third with a 9:42.21 finish.
 
SATURDAY FIELD RESULTS
  • Campbell-Miller mixed up his performance with a trip to the pit as well as the track, finishing fifth in the long jump with a best effort of 6.51m leap. Logan Henry also joined the sophomore, scoring eighth with a leap of 6.37m.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will split and take on a pair of meets next weekend, the relay teams taking part of the annual Penn Relays, while a select group of Hawks head to the Lehigh Covert Classic on April 27.
