Strong Performances Highlight Men’s Track and Field at the Penn Select

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's track and field team competed at the Penn Select meet on Saturday at the Ott Center.
 
TRACK EVENTS
  • The Hawks set the tone for the meet in the mile with Josh Forrest and Michael Glavin, the two placing eighth and ninth with times of 4:15.41 and 4:15.59, respectively. Freshman Brendan Hefferan (4:17.50) opened his winter track collegiate career to place 12th. New PR's were set by Ryan Cichocki and Anton Bovone, recording times of 4:20.28 and 4:22.92. Juniors Immanuel Rota-Talarico (4:26.96) and Will Rau (4:29.73) rounded out the event for the Hawks.
  • Benjamin Henry placed second in the 60m prelims, running a new PR of 6.88s. The time was the fourth-fastest time run by a Hawk in the event. Separated by only a thousandth of a second, Henry Peklo and Logan Henry placed 15th and 16th with efforts of 7.18s (7.172) and 7.18s (7.174). Freshman Eli Turner made his 60m debut with a 7.23s finish, while James Mackey Jr. set a new PR in the event to run 7.40s.
  • Darren Cammauf ran an IC4A qualifying time of 49.20s to place fourth in the 400m. The freshman duo Elijah Smith (50.22s) and Tommy Silvester (50.60s) ran in their 400m debut to place seventh and ninth. 
  • In the 800m, Jayden Greene (1:52.78) and Joshua Thaler (1:54.06) finished back-to-back to finish fifth and sixth. Greene's time meets the qualification standards for the IC4A meet. Graham Phillips and Tom Barausky were separated by just over a second to finish in 1:55.09 and 1:56.14. Jack Bolling made his collegiate track debut in the event, running a 1:57.41.
  • In his second event of the day, Cammauf (22.56s) led the Hawks in a ninth-place finish in the 200m with freshman Henry Peklo (22.67s) close behind. Finishing in back-to-back-to-back positions, Turner (23.01s), Luke Noss (23.02s), and Mackey Jr. (23.32s), placed 15th-16th-17th. 
  • Anthony Gargani (8:24.33) and Colton Johnson (8:27.26) were the first Hawks to cross the line in the 3000m. Gargani set a new PR while running an IC4A qualifying time. From the third section of the event, Aidan Doherty (8:43.08) ran a 19-second PR in the event to be the third Hawk to finish. Seniors Kevin Jumper and Jay Shanahan were separated by two seconds to finish with times of 8:43.61 and 8:45.81. Dawson Baptiste (9:09.95) capped off the event for the Hawks. 
  • Closing out the day with the 4x400m relay, the team of Noss, Greene, Manzo, and Smith ran 3:19.87 to place third. The second Hawk team consisting of Silvester, Thaler, Phillips, and Barausky ran 3:25.17 to place fifth.
 
FIELD EVENTS
  • In the long jump, Logan Henry took eighth place, his best attempt (6.51m) coming from his first jump. 
 
UP NEXT
  • The Hawks return for the third-consecutive meet at the Ott Center, taking part in the Quaker Invitational on Saturday, January 18.
