Opening Tip
Saint Joseph's plays its second game in four-day stretch, hosting Coppin State on Tuesday, December 9. Tipoff from Hagan Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game on ESPN+

The Hawk Will Never Die (Part I)
Deuce Jones II took over, scoring the final 10 points for the Hawks, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer as St. Joe's topped Temple on Saturday. Jones released his shot with 0.9 seconds remaining on the clock. It was the first win in the final second of a game since Cameron Brown made a layup with 0.3 seconds remaining against Duquesne on January 20, 2024. St. Joe's had not had come from behind field goal in the final second of a game since Brown connected on a trey with 0.7 seconds remaining to cap a 19-point comeback in the second half of a 73-72 win against Davidson on February 18, 2020.

The Hawk Will Never Die (Part II)
Saturday was the second consecutive game for Saint Joseph's that required a last second play. Against Princeton on November 30, the Hawks needed a defensive stop, which they got, forcing a half-court three at the buzzer to down the Tigers 60-58. SJU has won its last two games by a total of three points.

Welcome To The Club
Justice Ajogbor had three blocks against Temple on Saturday. His first, on the opening defensive set of the game for the Hawks, was his 100th in a Saint Joseph's uniform, making him the 12th player in program history to accomplish the feat. The graduate student from Benin City, Nigeria needed just 43 games to get to the century mark. Ajogbor has 18 contests with three blocks or more at SJU. His 199 career rejections are third among adive Division I players, trailing only Justin Abson of Georgia (210) and Felix Okpara from Tennessee (208). His 86 swats last season were fifth nationally.

Charitable Donations
Saint Joseph's may not take the most free throws in the nation, but they deliver when given the chance. The Hawks are in the top-5 in NCAA D1 in free throw percentage at 80.4. They have only had two games this season where they have connected on fewer than 77 percent at the line.

Lot Of Hoops, Not A Lot Of Time
Tuesday's game is the second for St. Joe's in four days. It is also the middle game of a three-game stretch, spanning less than a week. SJU has not played three contests in less than a week in a non-tournament or MTE setting since November 17-22, 2022 when it took on Villanova (11/17), Sacred Heart (11/19) and Central Connecticut (11/22).

The Road Not Taken
The 2025-26 non-conference schedule sees St. Joe's board planes, trains and automobiles more than it has in recent memory. SJU travels 6,021 miles for its road and neutral site games this season, not counting games within the city of Philadelphia. Last year, the Hawks traveled just 192 miles in non-conference play, taking on Texas Tech and Texas in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn. The 6k+ miles Saint Joseph's checks in at for non-conference games this season are more than the past three seasons combined.

Stock Up On Windex
The Hawks have done an excellent job of cleaning the glass this season. St. Joe's is third in the A-10 and 49th nationally at 41.0 rebounds per game. SJU has done even better on the offensive glass, pulling 14.13 o-boards a night, leading the conference and ranking 34th in NCAA Division I.

Home Sweet Hagan
Returning to Hawk Hill may be just the remedy SJU needs as the Hawks are 150-86, a winning percentage of .636 in Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena. The games have been particularly good since the beginning of the 2023-24 season with the Hawks going 30-8 (.789). The 27 victories from 2023-25 are the most in a two-year stretch since the building was renovated and renamed Hagan Arena in 2009.

Scouting Report
  • Coppin State enters play 2-10 overall and is coming off a 92-50 loss against Liberty on Saturday. The Eagles were picked eighth in the MEAC preseason poll with Khalil Horton selected as Preseason First Team All-Conference.
  • DeMariontay Hall leads the offense for CSU at 8.8 points per game, followed by Horton at 8.3. Horton has connected well from beyond the arc, going 21-for-53 (39.6 percent). Hall tops the team in rebounding at 5.7 boards a contest. Haasan Perkins has 38 assists.
  • Coppin State does get contributions from the entire roster as it is in the top-65 nationally in bench points with 31.3 an outing. The Eagles have also kept teams off the charity stripe, ranking third in the MEAC in infractions per game at 17.5 and tops the conference in fewest opponent free throw attempts.
  • A couple notable areas where CSU has struggled are in holding on to the ball and keeping opponents off the board. Coppin State is 350th nationally in turnovers, committing 15.6 miscues a contest and has a -3.6 turnover margin. It also is allowing 84.5 points per game, 342nd in NCAA Division I.
  • Larry Stewart is in his third season as the head coach of his alma mater. He has put together a staff comprised of alumni with ties to Coppin State's best years that included a trip to the NCAA Tournament and to the NIT.

All-Time Series
Tuesday is the fifth all-time meeting between Saint Joseph's and Coppin State with the Hawks holding a 3-1 series lead. SJU has won three in a row in the series, dating to the 2011-12 season. The only win for the Eagles was a 75-68 overtime victory in the 1995 NIT.

Last Time Against Coppin State
Saint Joseph's used a 20-6 run midway through the first half and cruised to an 83-54 win against Coppin State on November 26, 2024. Erik Reynolds II led the Hawks with 18 points. Dasear Haskins had a career-high 15. The halves were very similar in the score line with St. Joe's tallying 42 in the opening frame and 41 in the second stanza.

Temporarily Swiss
Saturday was the second of back-to-back neutral site games for Saint Joseph's, having previously played Princeton at CURE Insurance Arena on November 30. The games are the only two neutral site games on the SJU regular season schedule. St. Joe's played four regular season neutral site games in 2024-25.

Towering Over The Competition
With Justice Ajogbor (6'10"), Jaden Smith (6'11") and Steven Solano (7'0"), the Hawks' roster is loaded with height. Only eight opponents for St. Joe's have three or more players who are 6'10" or taller, led by five on Duquesne's roster. Two teams – Princeton and Rutgers-Camden – do not have a player on their squad that is taller than 6'9".

Next Up
It's a quick turnaround as the Hawks head to Syracuse on Thursday, December 11. Tipoff from the JMA Wireless Dome is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. with the game on ACCNX.
