FAIRFAX, Va. – The Saint Joseph's men's track team highlighted the IC4A Outdoor Championships with a gold medal from
Brendan Hefferan in the 3000m and the 4x100m relay team breaking a school record set only weeks ago inside George Mason Stadium this weekend.
St. Joe's finished fifth out of 27 teams, recording 72.5 points over the two-day meet.
SATURDAY TRACK RESULTS
- Benjamin Henry scored the first points for the Hawks in the opening event for the Crimson and Gray on the track, securing a time of 47.29s in the 400m. Jake Carrubba finished just outside of a scoring finish with a time of 49.05s.
- Logan Henry finished .14s off a qualifying finish in the 100m prelims, narrowly missing out on a qualifying time after a 10.89s performance. Adam Petersen registered a time of 11.13s in the event.
- Jayden Greene finished with the top time of seven Hawks competing in the 800m, including three scoring finishes. Greene's effort of 1:51.19 secured a podium finish, crossing the line in third place. Joshua Thaler and Graham Phillips took the final two scoring positions with seventh- and eighth-place finishes after timing in at 1:52.39 and 1:53.26, respectively. Elijah Smith's time of 1:53.52 was just .26s off of a scoring finish, taking 10th place in the event. Chris Manzo (1:54.30) and Tom Barausky (1:54.54) finished under three-tenths from each other, while A-10 All-Rookie Tommy Silvester legged out a finish through injury to wrap up a strong debut campaign.
- Four Hawks finished in the top 10 of the 1500m, led by a second-place finish from Michael Glavin with his personal-best time of 3:49.44. Noah Deckert produced a season-best effort of 3:52.04 to place sixth in the event, while rookie Brendan Hefferan's time of 3:52.76 produced a seventh-place finish. Matt Hoffman placed 10th with a 3:54.20 time, while Josh Forrest rounded out the squad with a time of 3:59.56.
- Ryan Cichocki netted two points for the Hawks in the 3000m steeplechase, producing a seventh-place finish with a time of 9:29.42.
- Anthony Gargani rounded out the opening day of action in the 5000m, crossing the finish line with a time of 15:28.90
SATURDAY FIELD EVENTS
- Cameron Campbell-Miller finished just two inches off a scoring finish in the long jump, registering a best mark of 6.84m on his second attempt.
SUNDAY TRACK EVENTS
- St. Joe's opened action on Sunday in style, the 4x100m relay team breaking its own school record set at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational earlier this season. The team of Petersen, Logan Henry, Benjamin Henry and Henry Peklo produced a time of 41.07s to place third, dropping nearly .3 seconds off their record-breaking time.
- Joining the relay team on the podium, Luke Noss registered a time of 52.76s in the 400m hurdles to take third place.
- Benjamin Henry yielded a personal best in the 200m finals, clocking in a time of 21.18s. The junior narrowly missed out on a podium finish by .04s.
- Brendan Hefferan earned the lone gold medal in the meet, securing the top spot by over a second in the 3000m with a time of 8:35.65.
- The 4x800m relay team consisting of Thaler, Barausky, Greene and Smith earned silver in the relay, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of third-place Duquesne with a time of 7:31.71.
- The 4x400m relay team rounded out the meet with a silver medal finish of their own, Noss, B. Henry, Manzo and Carrubba timing in at a 3:12.62 finish.
