Simpson, Williford Garner A-10 Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Derek Simpson and Austin Williford of the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Simpson was named the Player of the Week and Williford was named the Rookie of the Week. 

Simpson had the first two double-doubles of his career, averaging 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game during a 2-0 week for the Hawks. In an overtime win against Duquesne on Wednesday, he tied a career high with 23 points and dished 11 assists, adding a block and four steals. At Richmond on Sunday, he scored 19, including the 1,000th point of his career, to go along with personal bests of 13 rebounds and five three-pointers.

Williford averaged 14.0 points and shot 11-for-19 from the floor in the pair of games. Against Duquesne, he tallied a career high 16 points and had two steals in the 97-90 overtime win. He also scored the go ahead basket in overtime, beating the shot clock, giving SJU the lead to stay. On Sunday, he scored 12 in a homecoming game at Richmond.

The Hawks return to Philadelphia for a Wednesday evening matchup against St. Bonaventure. Tipoff from Hagan Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game to air on ESPN+.
